Judy Zimmet

Taking Charge:  One Day at a Time

“The Wellness Community plays a significant part in the curing and healing of my
breast cancer. I would be lonely, lost and isolated without TWC.”

In September 2007, when Judy Zimmet learned of her cancer diagnosis she immediately knew that the course of her life had changed significantly. “Naturally, I was upset,” says Judy. “I was also angry and sad and, of course, I asked the universal question, ‘Why me?’ and I received the rhetorical question in response, ‘Why not me?’”  Judy, born in New York City, and a resident of Arizona since 1989, is grateful for her health care background with a BS in Nursing and a MSN in Parent-Child Nursing because she has worked with people with all kinds of challenges and has been able to see and learn how they deal and cope with their struggles. “No, I am not thrilled that I have breast cancer, but it has given me gifts. I try to focus on each day. Many people are surprised when they call and find that I’m not home—that I’m out and about instead of staying homebound.”  Judy cares very deeply about her spiritual growth and emotional issues. She seeks more balance out of life and work. “My wish is to have the most number of days with high energy and without discomfort or pain. I want the best quality of life in whatever time I have left—which is still unknown.”

After Judy’s diagnosis, a friend called to tell her about The Wellness Community. “The Wellness Community offers incredible resources, all under one roof. The staff is friendly and supportive. They focus on each person they serve.”

The members of Judy’s Tuesday support group are caring and concerned as well. Many of the participants have shared their phone numbers and encourage each other to contact them for help, guidance and support. “TWC is an oasis,” says Judy. “It plays a significant part in the curing and healing of my breast cancer, and I would be lonely, lost and isolated without them.”
